4 Types of Car Spoilers and Their Functions

Car spoiler is one of the car components that affect the aerodynamics of the vehicle. The function of a car spoiler is to increase vehicle performance, increase downward pressure on the car so that lift due to high speeds can be reduced. The following are the types of car spoilers, functions.

Types of car spoilers

Apart from making the car look cool, car spoilers also have the following functions.

1. Front spoiler

The front spoiler is a type of car spoiler that functions to compensate for the rear spoiler. When the car is traveling at high speed, the car will have a balance. Car spoilers are usually located at the bottom of the front bumper. This is so that the distance between the car body and the ground can be close. Thus, the air flow from below is reduced so that the potential for the car to wobble when going fast can be reduced.

2. Rear spoiler

Rear spoiler is a rear spoiler that is placed at the back or stern. The shape resembles a wing and is attached directly to the car body, which is smaller and sloping in shape.

3. Lip spoilers

Lip spoilers are usually used for aesthetic purposes or as decoration. This type of spoiler is most widely used as a sedan car spoiler.

4. Wing spoilers

Wing spoilers are usually used for racing car spoilers or racing car spoilers. The size of a racing car wing or spoiler is bigger than any other type of spoiler. This type of car spoiler is not recommended to be installed in ordinary cars because the use of large wings is only ideal for high-performance cars.

Car spoiler function

After explaining the parts of the car spoiler, it turns out that the components behind the vehicle also have a function. Here is an explanation.

1. The car is much more stable

When OtoFriends drives on a quiet toll road at high speed, it will trigger stronger winds. If the steering wheel is not held firmly, the control of the car will shake and it can drift in the wind. This condition can occur if the driver does not have a car spoiler.

Strong winds will make the car lift higher and the car body can be swayed. Lift can be suppressed if the car has a spoiler installed. Thus, the car will be stable because it has been against the lift.

2. The car is more aerodynamic

Car spoilers function to improve the performance of the car and make it more aerodynamic. The indentations in the spoiler will provide better stability when the car is traveling at high speed.

3. Can fend off dust particles

Another function of a car spoiler is to ward off dust and dirt particles from behind. For example, hatchback type cars often experience air turbulence in the rear area so that a lot of dust swirls around the car. By installing a car spoiler, turbulence will be reduced and dirt on the rear glass will also be less. In fact, rainwater and dust also don’t stick easily because the car spoiler will block air turbulence.
